The Bicycle Path to Self Confidence and Reaching a Goal

Reaching A Goal: When a Bicycle means so much more

Itzik lives with his large family in a one room Jerusalem apartment. There’s no shower, no washing machine, and he sleeps on a mattress on the floor. There is a fridge, but it’s mostly empty.

Kav L’Noar gives all members of the TMIC (therapeutic mentoring in the community) program money every month, which they are free to spend on whichever shared activities are agreed with their mentor. Most of the time, TMIC members like Itzik choose to spend it on food, because they are so often hungry.

Itzik’s Kav L’Noar mentor, Elyakim, has been working with him for many months on social skills, self-confidence and self-belief.

With his growing confidence, and with the help of his mentor and a Kav L’Noar Mentoring Supervisor Itzik chose to work toward a goal.    Itzik decided to save the money from Kav L’Noar, and some of his own money from small jobs, to fulfill a long-held fantasy, a bicycle of his very own.

It took months of will power, determination and encouragement from Elyakim, but finally Itzik had enough shekels to reach his goal to buy himself the prized bike. Now, every admiring glance when he’s racing joyfully round the streets reminds Itzik that no matter what his circumstances, he has the power to achieve his own dreams.

Based on a true story- all names have been changed.<
