2 New School Counseling/Mentoring Programs
Kav L’Noar is able to provide individual therapy to children in schools
The Cherut Foundation is an Israeli organization which works in schools across Israel in a variety of different programs. After hearing about our reputation for excellence, The Cherut Foundation chose Kav L’Noar to be its service provider for counseling services in Jerusalem schools. Thanks to this partnership, for the first time, Kav L’Noar is able to provide individual therapy to children in schools. Kav L’Noar therapists are providing counseling sessions on school property and in school time, to children selected by their schools on the basis of particular need. The therapists are supervised by a Kav L’Noar clinical staff member. The schools are identifying children who are self-harming, suffering from eating disorders or showing other signs of serious distress. We are very glad to be able to provide the professional counseling they need.
A school group mentoring program for an impoverished Jerusalem community’s teenage girls.
Kav L’Noar has for several years been working in a particularly high risk, poverty stricken Jerusalem neighborhood, in partnership with the Jerusalem Municipality. Until now, we have only been working with the local teenage boys, both in and out of school. Our reputation for excellence has spread, and the Jerusalem Municipality has now asked us to open a parallel program for the community’s teenage girls. We have therefore agreed to launch a school group mentoring program specifically for them. We will be working with five groups of girls. These girls have all been identified by their schools as displaying ‘at-risk’ behavior and are on the verge of dropping out of school. The girls will be meeting with Kav L’Noar mentors regularly after school in their groups as well as individually. The mentors, who all have qualifications in art therapy, will focus on using art activities to help re-orient the girls towards higher levels of functioning and more positive behavior both in and out of school.
Kav L’Noar opens new programs only when they are truly needed. As our reputation grows, we continue to receive requests from local government and other agencies to take even more schools and families under our wing.
